Hurricanes End Regular Season with Double Header Sweep of Pelican Rapids

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes completed their regular season with a double header sweep of the Pelican Rapids Lakers on Sunday at Chauncey Martin Field in Pelican Rapids.  The Canes won 10-2 and 13-1.

Alex Hexum (6IP, 8K, 2BB, 4H, 2R, 2ER) improved his season record to 3-0 in game one.  Hitting leaders for Fergus Falls were Tosten Mann (2-5, 2R, 2B, 2RBI), Darin Stanislawski (3-4, R, 2B, HR, 4RBI), Carter Thielke (2H) and Austin Stanislawski (2H).

The Canes struck first when Alex Hensch drew a one out walk in the top of the first, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Darin Stanislawski.  They increased their lead to 3-0 with a pair of second inning runs on a single, an error, a wild pitch and a ground out.  In the fifth, Mann doubled to lead things off, took third on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hexum.  Pelican Rapids got their two runs in the fifth when Dana Johnson delivered a 2-out, 2-run double.  A six-run sixth broke the game open for the Canes.  Thielke singled and scored on a double by Austin Stanislawski.  After a line out, Sean McGuire and Alex Hensch singled to load the bases.  Mann drove in two with a base hit and Darin Stanislawski launched a 3-run homer to close out the scoring.

Nate Sillerud and Peyton Pauna led the Lakers with two hits apiece.

In game two, Fergus Falls scored six in the third to take command early.  McGuire led off with a single but was forced out at second base on a Hensch grounder.  Mann doubled, scoring Hensch, and Darin Stanislawski then singled home Mann.  Alex Hexum singled, moving Stanislawski to second and Thomas Bosek delivered a 3-run homer.  Thielke then singled, stole second base and scored on a base hit by Owen Krueger.  The Canes added three more in the fourth on 4 walks, a sacrifice fly by Thielke and an error.  Pelican Rapids got their run in the bottom of the fourth with Adam Johnson singling to lead off the inning, moving to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an error.  A pair of hits and a pair of walks in the fifth led to another Fergus Falls run and the Canes closed out the scoring with three runs in the sixth.  Austin Stanislawski led off with a single and scored on a double by Krueger.  McGuire then singled in Krueger and Mann knocked in McGuire with a double.

Leaders for the Canes were McGuire (2-5, R. RBI), Hensch (2-4, 3R), Mann (3-4, R, 2 2B, 2RBI), Hexum (3-3, 2R, 2BB, RBI) and Krueger (2-4, R, 2B, 2RBI).  Adam Johnson went 2-for-3 to lead Pelican Rapids.  Darin Stanislawski (4IP, 6K, 0BB, 1H, 1R, 0ER) earned the win on the mound.

The Canes finish as the Countryside League Champs and their next game will be in the Region 16C Tournament on Sunday, July 31, at 1:00pm in Kensington.  They will play the winner of the first round game between Kensington and Osakis, which will be played on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00am in Kensington.
