Pelican Rapids and Barnesville clashed in a high school football game in Barnesville on Friday night with the Trojans taking a 28-14 win over the Vikings.

“Felt we played well but very sloppy on the offensive side of the ball,” said Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “I believe every penalty we had on Friday was on the offense, not acceptable.  Pelican played with energy and determination and if their quarterback, Tim Guler hadn't left in the 3rd quarter with a knee injury the game would have come down to the wire.  He had a fantastic game for Pelican.”

Cameron Heng got Barnesville started on the opening kickoff with an 83 yard return for a touchdown.  Noah Krause added the two-point conversion which gave the Trojans an 8-0 lead.  Krause then connected with Heng on an 18 yard TD pass, lifting the Trojans to a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter Pelican Rapids scored on a 9 yard run by Guler to cut the lead to 14-6.

Braeden Bredman got into the end zone on a 3 yard run and Heng scored the 2-point conversion to give Barnesville a 22-6 lead.  Guler’s one yard TD run and conversion run brought the Vikings to with eight points at 22-14.

Krause hit Kaden Zenzen with a 38 yard TD pass in the fourth quarter for the final points of the game and a 28-14 Barnesville win.

Barnesville was led on the ground by Heng with 110 yards on 12 carries.  John Roller added 77 yards on 7 attempts and Krause carried the ball 19 times for 74 yards.  The Trojans had 276 rushing yards and 332 total yards on the night.  Krause was 2-for-5 throwing the football for 56 yards.  Both completions went for touchdowns.  Defensive leaders were Krause with an interceptions, Aaron Baker with a fumble recovery and Zenzen with a pair of sacks.  Tim Wells and Logan Yeske also recorded a sack each.  Jonny Robideau was in on 11 tackles (5 solo, 6 assisted).

“In the end we did enough to get the win but we need to clean up the penalties and dumb mistakes that we can't shake,” added Coach Strand.  “Next week we travel to Osakis to face another undefeated team.  They are always a tough opponent and are very well coached.  Looking forward to it.  I would expect to face Pelican again later this season, hopefully we can both stay healthy for that to happen.”
