Viking Girls Host HOL Track and Field Meet

The young Pelican Rapids Girls' Track and Field team proved they are working hard throughout the week by showing improved performances this past week on Thursday when they competed in the 3rd HOL Series Meet of the year.  The meet took place in Pelican Rapids. 

Veteran athletes Tatianna Wiley and Anna Stephenson, much like last week in Barnesville, again showed great leadership in getting the mostly inexperienced squad off to a great start with solid performances in the field events with Tatianna Wiley winning the Long Jump with a jump of 16'8.75" and Stephenson finishing 3rd in the High Jump with a leap of 4'8".  One of the veterans, Tori Stephenson helped kick start the day with a season best 18.46 in the 100 hurdles to finish in 4th place.  

Freshman Torie Jugovich ran to a season's best time of 15.29 in the 100 meter dash which was good enough for 5th place, while Freshman Ashlee Mull was 6th with a time of 16.92.  In the 4x200, Rachael Guler, Hannah Fosson, Lizzy Moe and Kelsie Isaman ran a season's best time of 2:08.95 to finish 3rd.  The 4x100 meter relay, made up of Guler, Mull, Kajelina Luttrell and Jugovich finished 3rd with a time of 62.25.  Wiley returned in the 400 with a winning time of 62.35.  Tori Stephenson followed that with a strong 300 hurdles race, finishing 2nd in a time of 53.70.  

In the 200 meter dash, Wiley won in a time of 27.61 while Anna Stephenson was 4th in a time of 29.43.  The Girls 4x400 closed out the night on the track with Tori Stephenson, Lexie Pixley, Anna Stephenson and Tatianna Wiley finishing 3rd with a season's best time of 4:22.7. 

In other field events, Janae Laferriere finished 5th in the Shot Put with a personal best throw of 26'9.5". 

Other personal bests on the day included; Brenna Davis in the 300 hurdles (61.58), Hannah Fosson (31.97) and Faith Banton (33.15) in the 200 meter dash, Emily Martinez in the Pole Vault (5'0"), Lizette Franco in the Shot Put (21'1"), Lexie Pixley (12'5.5"), Martinez (11'7") and Lizzy Moe (10'11.5") in the Long Jump, and Janae Laferriere in the Discus (66'11"). 

The Vikings placed 3rd as a team on the night and now prepare to compete next Thursday in Barnesville, MN in meet #4 of the HOL series.
