Ashby Wins Two Games on Saturday

The Ashby baseball team registered a pair of victories on Saturday, winning 7-4 over Morris and beating Pelican Rapids, 8-0.

The Arrows took the lead late in the game against Morris.  The game was tied at four with Ashby batting in the top of the sixth when Carter Spangler doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Mattson Hoff singled to knock in a run.  Hunter Norby was credited with the victory for Ashby Arrows. The pitcher lasted two innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero.

Torin Olson started the game for Ashby. The right hander allowed eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Arrows racked up 11 hits on the day.  Jaden Norby, Carson Spangler, and Carter Spangler each had two hits.

“Torin really battled through some adversity and Hunter came in and slammed the door,” noted Ashby Head Coach Jared Larson. “Our defense wasn’t as sharp as usual, but our pitchers battled through it and we had some great at bats at key times!”

Carter Spangler (7IP, 3H, 0R, 13K, 0BB) shut down Pelican Rapids, throwing a complete game shutout in the second game of the day.

Ashby Arrows tallied six hits in the game.  Jaden Norby and Carter Spangler each had multiple hits for Ashby Arrows. The Arrows stole 14 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Torin Olson led the way with three.

“Carter pounded the zone and was getting all of his pitches over for strikes. It was great couple days of baseball and I am very proud of the boys’ effort,” added Larson.

The Arrows will play Border West in a double header on Tuesday in Graceville.
