The Pelican Rapids softball team won nine games in 2019, recording more wins than the team has had in a single season since 2007.  Unfortunately, they didn’t get to follow up that season in 2020 due to COVID canceling the spring season.  Head Coach Dan Beck is in his sixth season as the Vikings look for good things in 2021 with a solid nucleus of varsity experienced players on the roster.

Seniors Greta Tollefson (C), Kiera Booth (OF/1B), Vanassa Booth (OF), Holly Bergquist (OF) and Allie Haiby (SS/2B), and sophomore Sylvia Pesch (P/IF) all return.  Beck will be looking to sophomore Kia Nelson (P), freshmen Madi Tollerud (P) and Ellie Welch (1B), and eighth-grader Hazel Haugrud (C) to compete for varsity playing time.

“We return an experienced group of players for the 2021 season,” acknowledged Coach Beck.  “We are looking forward to playing after not being able to compete last spring.  This team is a group of competitive girls who are active in other sports and also our summer weight room program.”

Beck, who will be assisted by Madison Oswald and Manda Erickson, sees New York Mills and Browerville-Eagle Valley as the top teams in Section 6A, while DGF, Hawley, Barnesville and Frazee should all battle for the Heart O’ Lakes Conference crown.
